I served at MacDill AFB, 1st Cmbt Spt Grp, from 1970-1973 and worked in the CBPO there; a building that is still used for the same purposes. I remember the F-4's and pilots which flew there during those waning days of the Vietnam Conflict. Funny, at the time there were scads of Iranian pilots on base. You could spot them in their light blue shirts and darker pants. I visited the outdoor aircraft display at MacDill AFB yesterday. Very poignant.

Big question! During ww2 their was a practice bombing range in or right outside of the town of Oviedo (maybe in the Chuluota/Geneva area.) Any ideas how I could find information like this out? Thanks a million, and if you know or have any clues it's danielpshearer@gmail.com

This base does have a very small park of aircraft on diplay. These include the F-4 Phantom(former Thunderbird but now in camo color scheme),an F-16 fighter in standard grey on grey,as well as a B-50/KB-50 Superfortress. This particular aircraft is a KB-50D#49-389. It was in service with the 2nd bombardment wing(medium) at Hunter AFB Georgia from 1950-1953 the 4505th aerial refueling wing at Hunter AFB Georgia, and later at Biggs AFB Texas. It was retired in Oct 1963. It is still configuered as a tanker.I also have recent photos of this plane. This is a closed Base meaning you must have bussiness on the base or know someone on base to get a pass to enter. If your just coming to sight see you will be turned away most likely.

From several contacts that I have made at MacDill AFB it seems that they currently have no aircraft on display for the public. The visitors center said that the aircraft are no longer on display. Too bad because I was going to make a trip thewir to see them.
