I served with the 2856 air base group ( base supply) 1969-1970. Loved it. Somewhere on a main street was the hero shop where they made long hero with all kinds of things in it. Great memories. Bless you all

I worked at Utica College in 1981-82. Apparently we were on the landing pattern for Griffiss AFB in nearby Rome, NY. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to look up and see B-52s going low and slow with full flaps out on their way home. I'd see F-106s too. The most amazing site I ever saw were four C-141s flying nose-to-tail in an incredibly tight formation. I have visited the B-52 on display at what is left of Griffiss (near the Rome HS) Great way to honor all those who served there.

Happy New Year to everyone. Well some sad news for you folks that were here at the Griff. They demoed all the old dorms and chow hall. There is nothing left. From the library to the bowling alley. Had some good times in those dorms and wish I could still grab an old greesy cheeseburger from the chow hall. Miss it and the people.... Take care all. Jim

My Father SMSgt John Traeger was stationed there until he retired in 86. 416th Bomb Wing. I sometimes miss the sounds of the engine testing at night. Was a good experience.

My time at Griffiss AFB was October 7th to October 26th of 1972 while TDY with the KC-135Q tankers supporting the SR-71 during the Yom Kippur War (1973 Arab-Israeli War). Did not get to see much of the surrounding area and base but I do have some pictures of the base and the BOQ. What I did see was very scenic with all the fall colors.
