From my late father's Flight Log Book, upon his return to the states at the end of the war in Europe with VBP-107 and after logging over 800 hours in PB4Y's (1 and 2's); some of his last flying for the Navy occurred in an SNB-1 serial number 39862 and an SNB-2(?) serial number 39247 in early November of 1945 in what appear to be training flights for reserve pilots at USNAS, Glenview , IL.

Don't know if any of this info is useful, but did want to share it as I have been fortunate enough to have his orignal documents and am enjoying seeing his piece of history up close on a personal level.

I had the privelege of atending the Naval Aerial Photographers School in 1953 at the Pensacola Naval Air Station where we usewd the SNB for use in aerial mapping runs and also out of the hatch photos. It was the right aircraft at that time, however shortly thereafter it was replaced by photo jet aircraft with nose mounted cameras.

There also is a Beech SNB-1 at Hunter Field in Sparta, Illinois. Serial number 43-51043. Beautiful Warbird. The owner flies it to air shows in the area. The owner of the SNB-1 also owns, maintains and flies another Warbird at the same airfield, a Messerschmitt Me-210. Both planes are restored to the WW2 markings and are beautiful ladies. Have pictures of both and could send them to you if you wish. I might mention that there is also a Piper L-4J grasshopper in the group as well, in full military WW2 makeup. All 3 warbirds have been restored and are awesome to look at and even more awesome to listen to them taking off and landing. I consider myself very fortunate that the owner has decided to house his planes in this area.

Is this airplane the same as the Kansan or Texan? We're doing research for our area concerning a Naval Air Station (Navigation School) that was here in 1943-44 and one of the planes reportedly "stationed" here was the Beech SNB. We'd like to have a photo to include in our collection but each time we find it described as the Kansan or the Texan. One appears to by the Navy model and the other is army but we haven't been able to clarify that. Thanks

Hello,
Thank you for your site. It is very informative.
I have a couole of corrections though. This information comes from the military Technical order TO-01-90KC-1 which is the flight handbook for the AT-11 and SNB-1 series aircraft. It is a revised version dated 8 September 1948.

The name for the AT-11 and SNB-1 is the Kansan not the Navigator. The Navigator is the AT-7 or SNB-2 series of aircraft.
Wing span 47 feet 7 and 3/4 inches instead of 49'9"
Weight and balance information comes from TO-90K-5 Basic Weight and loading data for AT-7, AT-10, AT-11 SNB-2, SNB-1 Aircraft dated 3-10-44.
Recommended max gross take off weight 9300 Lbs
Recommended max landing weight 7850 lbs
Max range at 150 MPH TAS will give 745 statute miles and 647 nautical miles according to the -1
The dash 1 also states that 225 mph or 195 knots IAS will not be exceeded at any time as opposed to 215.

Thanks again for your efforts,
Taigh Ramey
