In the late 1960's two D-models were used as slurry bombers in New Mexico. I saw them flying out of Kirtland AFB many times. I don't remember the year, but one of them augured into a mountain and was totally destroyed. I read that the other was retired, but have no idea what ever happened to it. Any of y'all have any information on these two ships?

My grandfather Glenn Burrs wrote the song alexander the swoose for which the b-17d is named.

I believe that the B17D "Alexander the Swoose" is at the National Air and Space Museum storage facility.
