Mike Holloman East Moline, IL | I was on the ground crew of 61-0002 when she was brand new. I arrived at Kincheloe in 1960, but 002 didn't arrive till late 1961. "Frenchy" Desgardins was the crew chief then. I stayed at Kincheloe till I got out in 1965, and had the privilege of being on the crew of 002 most of that time. Is she still at Barksdale? 07/07/2008 @ 14:35 [ref: 21788] |
BAM Bossier, LA | I'm a current crew chief on the Buff. 1002 was the first jet I was assigned too. I have worked on the others you all have mentioned too. Good day. 05/26/2008 @ 14:34 [ref: 21009] |
Big Jim , MO | 61-0002 is at Whiteman AFB, MO (just for some gas)... 04/23/2008 @ 09:17 [ref: 20686] |
Keith Stanton Macomb, MI | For Rick Taylor:
Rick, you might try the web site below. It goes to Corgi Models and a replica of 60-0049 in her Kincheloe colors and patch. My wife got me one for Christmas (she can't find 0034 LOL) and it is in the old white and grey colors and 2nd AF marking on tail but it is the 449th BW patch on the nose. Seeing you crewed her thought you might likee to see it.

Richard Garofalo Niantic, CT | I was stationed at kinchloe from 1966 to 1969 and was a crew chief on 1013. We also had 044, 032, 048. I was not aware the some of these beauties are still in operation. Have not been to that area since I left. but always wondered what happened to the kinch.Anyone out there with info, email me 02/19/2008 @ 00:32 [ref: 19722] |
Bill Saunders , MN | Browsing a website, http://www.ejection-history.org.uk/Aircraft_by_Type/b52_stratofortress.htm and found t/n 60-0040 had crashed in 88 at KI Sawyer in MI. That was the second plane I was ass't crew chief on. I can't find any more info about the crash. Also, 1025, the first buff I crewed on, is a NASA plane, all painted white. Both from Ellsworth AFB SD, mid 80's. 01/20/2008 @ 04:08 [ref: 19368] |
Rick Roper , MI | I'm trying to find out for a friend what happened to the b-52 with tail number 60-0013.
Thanks 01/18/2008 @ 04:38 [ref: 19342] |
Dean Armstrong Ballston Spa, NY | Hey Keith good to hear from you. My assistant crewchief on 1010 was Winston Kopp, he was involved in an accident after I pcs'd to Plattsburgh in 75, anyone know of his where abouts? I also worked for a time with Costello and Radke. Anyone remember the OMS Bomber section Chief CMS Shuffleberger?
I also need some help. I am trying to get the name of the ground towing equipment we used on the Buffs during winter. We called them "wheel movers" but am not sure of the exact designation. I remember hating those things and also remember a few hydrulic lines bursting on me while attempting to inflate the clutches. 12/16/2007 @ 08:56 [ref: 18941] |
Keith Stanton Macomb, MI | I too remember Taylor and Armstrong from the Kinch. I still am in contact with Gene Fosbaugh, Larry First, Mike Melvin and several others from both OMS and Job Control. Have not seen Miller in years although before PCS'ng to UT he and I were tight. Wonder whatever happened to Nagley, Costello, Perret, Chidley, Valentine, Henderson, Evers, etc?
Get up to Kinch on a regular basis as my wife still has family in the Soo. Sad to see the shape of the old place.
As for 0034, I appreciate the heads-up Dean. I was able to take that info and speak to the guys at Edwards and they forwarded me some new pictures of the old girl in its current state and paint job. Funny seeing that long tail with no 20mm.
Whenever I get too nostalgic I go down to Wright-Pat and stick my head up in the wheel well of the Buff there and take in the smells. LOL The way they are flying I figure they will outlive all of us.
My best to all that humped the flightline and worked on the ugliest yet sweetest bird to have ever been in the AF inventory.
