aaron degnan , OK | All the tail numbers mentioned except the last two are AWACS. Not EC-anything. They are E-3's They have never been EC-137s and will never be........ 07/23/2005 @ 15:42 [ref: 10815] |
Kevin , OH | This page is mixing apples and oranges. The first two ex-civilian 707's modified as AWACS aircraft were designated EC-137D's. The aircraft used as transport for USCINCSOC was also an ex-civilian modified 707-300 series aircraft. It's tail number was 67-19417 and is shown in the photo below. It was modified as a staff transport and airborne command post for the CINC. Due to the fact that it was air-refuelable, the aircraft was often used to transport other VIP's, both military and civilian. The basic crew complement included 2 pilots, 1 flight engineer, 1-2 radio operators and 2-3 passenger service specialists. The aircraft would also normally carry 3-4 civilian contracted maintainers. 05/13/2004 @ 14:24 [ref: 7405] |
