James Baumbach Florence, KY | I was assigned to the 9SOS at Phan Rang AFB Vietnam on 27 Jan 1971. I worked on the C-47's as a assistant crew chief. After a few weeks I was assigned to Bein Hoa. I also worked on the C-47's and helped with the O-2B's. After 4 months I went back to Phan Rang. I only stayed for one week and I was off to DaNang AFB. I was also doing the kicker status on both the O-2b's and C-47's. I left DaNang and came back home on 19 December 1971. I sure would like to hear from any body that was there with me. A good friend at the time was Jonny Montrose at DaNang. Anybody would be appreciated.
Very Good Site. Thanks!!!! 01/14/2012 @ 21:51 [ref: 52118] |
Chip Augustine Ashland, VA | It is very interesting to see that a few 9 SOS members have found this site. I have set up a 9th SOS group page on facebook. Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like FB, but it was the best way for me to try to establish contact with those of us that worked on, or flew the 02-B. I can only hope that a few of you will "take the plunge" and join us over on facebook. Do a search for "Vietnam era 9th SOS" Hope to see you soon.We are running out of time to tell our story!

Kenneth Huff , TX | I worked on the O2 and the C47's at Phan Rang AB in Vietnam. I was stationed there from 71-72. It would be nice to hear from some of the guys that I worked with there. My first plane that I worked on was the C47 and then I worked also on the O2 when they first came in to the Air Force inventory. 05/01/2011 @ 13:10 [ref: 37630] |
Craig Clary Anderson, SC | I used to be a volunteer at the March Field Air Museum from January 1997 to February 2005, and a native of Hemet, California, when I was volunteering there I was the caretaker of three static display aircraft, the UH-1F Huey s/n 63-13143, the O-2B Super Skymaster s/n 67-21465 and the T-37B Tweety s/n 57-2316, but the O-2B really got my attention for some strange reason, I got to really study that type of aircraft and its role in Vietnam and shortly there after I sent away for all of the historical records for all 31 O-2B aircraft.
Now I run a web site called www.Oscar-Deuce.com and I really enjoy it, this web site is about the individual histories of the O-2 aircraft, the units as well as memorials and other things. I was born in 1970 and tried to get into the United States Armed Forces, but was refused, I was the last Clary to carry on the name so having this web site and helping keep aviation history alive is my way of saying thank you to our Nations Military Veterans. 01/29/2011 @ 04:09 [ref: 35896] |

Phil Nolden , FL | I flew the O-2B with the 9th SOS out of Phan Rang from JUN71 until we closed down Phan Rang and transferred the squadron to Tan Son Nhut. Got a 3 month drop off my tour when we turned all psy-ops over to the VNAF in approx APR72.
Got orders to Hurlburt as an O-2B instructor for the 9th SOS, even though the squadron had been deactivated. Enroute to the States somebody at MPC woke up and switched the assignment to a T-39 at Eglin. When I showed up, the only base T-39 had just gone down in the Gulf on a foggy night. The crew survived, but the bird sank, so I finished out my AF career in base flight flying the Convair.
I also have contact with our Army liasion at the time, Larry Miller.
