My father was a Pathfinder Navigator with the 392nd BG, 579th Sq and flew on more than a dozen B-24 aircraft between Sep '44 and Jun '45. I'm looking for a photo of a B-24H #51150 "I Walk Alone" I am building several scale models of B-24's and want to make decals to match some of the planes my father flew on.

For Ed Thomas:

My dad was a navigator on the "Bottom's Up". Your uncle's name/story rings a very small bell. While my dad has long passed, he told me about one "fine character" who became a POW and had to take extra measures to assure the Germans did not become aware of his last name.

Was my dad referring to your uncle?

(Correcting spelling) I am looking for information on a B-24 named "Bottoms Up." My uncle, Carl Zimmerman served as a belly gunner. Any info is welcome, I noticed the previous reference to the aircraft, but was unable to make contact with the person who supplied the information. ethomas@home4et.com

On my grandfather's 25th mission, he and his crew were knocked down during the greatest loss in a single mission in 8th AF history.
Sept.27th, 1944 during a mission over Kassel, Germany his plane ( s/n 40-50321 )was one of 25 shot down.
Five of his crew were lost.
That day, the 445th BG lost 33 of 37 aircraft during the raid.
His name is Carl J. Sollien.
Charles Graham was my grandfather's radio operator and is
featured in an interview that filled in some blanks for me concerning the men and the missions of WWII.
Thanks to anyone who cares enough to never forget the generation that saved the world.
