I crewed the UC-880 from the time she arrived from the FAA in Mojave CA in 1979. We spent almost a year modifing her to a tanker for the Navy. We installed a Sargent Fletcher reel system from an A-3 aircraft. I crewed her for just over 9 years before movng on. About 2 years later she was removed from service and used as a test bed for explosives for bomb proof cargo bins. After that she was chopped up as scrap.
I really enjoyed my travels with the a/c. Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Alaska, Aleutians Islands, New Foundland, US wide, where ever there was a test range.

Hey Reed how's it going?

GREAT SITE!

FOR A LONG TIME, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A GOOD PICTURE OR SET OF PICTURES OF THE COCKPIT OF THE CV880.

I FLEW THE AIRPLANE WITH DELTA AIRLINES FOR 4 YEARS AND
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

I'M HOPING TO GET SOME KIND OF PICTURES OF THE COCKPIT
THAT I MIGHT BLOW-UP AND HANG ON THE WALL OF MY OFFICE.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY THOUGHTS?

HAS ANYONE SEEN "ELVIS PRESSLEY'S 880 IN MEMPHIS?

THANKS -
Jack

I remember when the UC880 came to PAX RIVER in 1981. We previous discussions on weather the aircraft would fit in the barn and what type of tanker package it would have. It did fit in the hangar. It was contract maintenance, so there little Navy interaction, maintenance wise. That sucker was LOUD and SMOKEY! Isn't that what jets are supposed to be? So much for noise and smoke abatement.

I may be able to help with some manual pages (Copies) for the 880's CJ-805 engines if you are still interested.

I am an instructor at Teterboro School Of Aeronautics.
We currently have two GE Cj-805 engines that came off of a convair 880.It is a mock up,so that our students can learn how to do a real engine change. If you know of anyone that has a maintenance manual or even copies of one,we would be interested.

Hello all. I'm the lead mechanic on a project to restore a Convair CV-880 to flyable condition. YES you reading this right, and NO this is no a joke. We are planning to get a Convair 880 flyable and plan on flying it to airshows around the country when we do get it flying. It is going to be a long be rewarding job,but we need help.
