I served as a crew chief on the T-29 during the years 1952 thru 1955. I belonged to the 3535th flt. line maint. sqd. at Mather Field, Ca. The T bird was a great a/c and I enjoyed my tour at Mather very much . A few years back, I saw a picture of T-29's being destroyed and I don't mind saying it brought tears to my eyes...... Mitch

I was stationed at Harlingen A.F.B. Texas and was seperated fron the Air Force on November 3rd 1954. While there I had the pleasure of being Crew Chief and Flight engineer on Convair T-29s. What a plane. If my memory serves me correctly, the T-29 was originally designed to have Turbo Props but the Airforce had so much good experience with, and could exchange parts with other planes that used the Pratt&Whitney R-2800 that this is why it came so equipped.
