Mack McCormack Houston, TX | The best part about the T-29 was cabin pressurization. It made extended flights and RON's a little more comfortable.
I was there from March 1963 to June 1966, thanks to Robert S. McNamara and LBJ. The only officers I remember are Cdr. Elliott and Lt. Baumgartner. The best times were before Elliott became CO.
Weekend trips to Mexico were a real hoot.

Bobby Davis ADR3 Carrollton, TX | The T-29 was a good aircraft although the R4D was a bit more reliable. The 2800 engine along with some of the systems were somewhat of a pain at times as opposed to the 1820 engine and basic systems.
Christi it wasn’t so much fun when we were in front of Cdr. Elliott in captains Mass. Guess we shouldn’t have heaved beer bottles at that officer on the beach. Come to think of it he deserved it he shouldn’t have flipped us off! As I remember when Cdr. Elliott asked you about you told him you didn’t see a thing you were asleep. Thanks Again! Not bad I only got two weeks on the base but I was outstanding Sailor of the month at the time. I don’t think he was happy! O well! 10/08/2011 @ 18:03 [ref: 49485] |
Charlie McHugh , MI | Hello,
I was in VT-29 from Oct. 1969 to Oct. 1971 as an AE. I had just finished AE school in Jacksonville, FL. I always thought I had a somewhat unusual last name but when I arrived there were two brothers with the last name McHugh. Since I was low man on the totem pole my name became Magoo. When I lived off base my roommate was the guy with the military jeep with the Chevy V-8 in it. I loved working on the T-29B. Did a few trips to the west coast in her to. Good memories.
