John Voss Los Gatos, CA | The Curtiss C-46 received its "Name to Fame" by flying the "Hump", and other operations in the Pacific and SE Asia. Were any C-46's used at all in the European Theater during WWII (e.g. D-Day)??? I have never seen any photos or historical notation to that effect. 01/14/2006 @ 10:29 [ref: 12153] |

BG Robert V Cloements USAF ret Carmichael, CA | We flew the second C46 model made by Curtis TN 8546 and it was assigned to the 8090th Pacusa Detachment, 20th AAF of which I was the Commander as a LT.
It was the personal aircraft of BG Fred Irving who was Commanding General of the Western Pacific Base Command. We were first headquartered on Saipan and then moved to Guam. When General Irving passed away at the age of 102 he was the olderst living Graduate of the USMA and one of three GOs who had the destinction of being both Commandant of Cadets and Superintendant 08/02/2000 @ 21:31 [ref: 550] |
David Jellison Ft. Worth, TX | I would Like to add the CAF aircaft to your data base.
We fly two C-46F's to various airshows throughout the
summer and into early fall. Our aircraft are named the
Tinker Belle and China Doll. If you wish more specific
information on the "F" model I will be more than glad
to help. I am currently the maintenance officer of the
Tinker Belle. I am always looking for odds and ends for
our aircraft as we are constantly trying to restore her
to her former glory. Thank you for your time, David. 07/26/2000 @ 10:12 [ref: 501] |
