I was a crew chief on RB 66Bs and RF-4c stationed at RAF Alconbury in the 1TRS from December 1962 thru Dec 1966. I am interested in hearing from anyone willing to attesting to the frequent number of USAFE and NATO alert exercises where we were require to test the 10TRW's ability launch and recover aircraft in support of the Wing's mission. Good assignment. Never was able to get back throughout my 22 yrs service.

I was assigned to the 30th Tac Recon Sq from Sept 1960 until I rotated in Oct 1964. I started as a RB-66B crew chief with TDY's to Moron, Spain and Nouasseur, Morocco. I served as
flight engineer. Hard crewed with Robert Corbell, pilot and
John Lee, navigator. I was single for three years and spent many an enjoyable evening at the Fiesta club and the three tuns in Huntingdon. Married an English girl from High Wicombe, Bucks. The most memorable, enjoyble time of my career in the Air Force.

Was assigned to the 10th Support Sq in the AGE Unit. Helped launch many B66 each day and many during the ORI's when the Wing Co alerted at 2AM on Sunday mornings after everyone had closed down the clubs. Wish I could go back to those days. Hated them then!!!

I worked in the 30th Tactical Reconnaisance Squadron Intelligence Office from November 1959 at Spangdahlem until October 1961 at Alconbury. I remember always wondering every time one of my friends took off on a mission if they would come back.

I was stationed at RAF Bruntingthorpe, England, from
Sep 57 to Feb 61 and knew many of the assigned military
when the base was a SAC operation and later under USAFE.
I have some photos which might be of interest and would be
happy to share them.

I was assigned to the 1st Tac Recon Squadron Comm Shop at Spangdahlem AB, Germany when we converted from the RB-57A to the RB-66B. Quite a change to that bigger bird, but a lot of the comm gear was the same. Took the new airplane TDY to Morocco in 1958 and didn't have any serious problems. We later changed over to the AFM 66-1 maintneance concept and all the comm people, etc. were moved into the 10th Field Maintenance Sq. There we serviced aircraft from the 1st Tac, 19th Tac, 30th Tac, and 42nd Tac Sqdns, all B-66s of one varient or another. I transferred to the 79th Fighter-Bomber Sqdn. at RAF Woodbridge before the move to England took place for the 10th Wing, but I can remember seeing a lot of the B-66s there after the move took place.
Anyone around who remembers the old 1st Tac comm shop???

I was stationed at Alconbury from 61-Nov.63. AC Fuel Systems. Went TDY twice to Toul & Rhine-Main [supporting Army Operation "Long Thrust" Mobilization of troops from WA State to Germany.
The 10th TAC won a Presidential Unit Citation while I was there. Married a Corby girl. We have three children and I went to work forPan Am in Nov 63 till they went out of business. Went to college and seminary to become priest in the Episcopal Church.
We made many trips back to England via Pan Am. Many great memories of Alconbury, even the Cuban Missile Crisis a month before we were married was something we can now look at as a place in history.
