I hitched a ride on one from McClellen AFB to Norton AFB, sometime in 1952. It had wood pannelling and early airline type seats. I was the only enlisted man (SSgt) and the only one wearing a seat belt. We hit clear air turbulance letting down into San Bernardino. Two injuries: broken leg on one Major and a badly cut head on the captain sitting next to me. Emergency landing with ambulance waiting at Norton AFB.

Refueled one of these at Amarillo AFB, circ 1953. I redall it was a plush conversion of a C-47.
