Folks,

The June 2006 issue of Atlantic Flyer carries an article about the Fairchild XNQ-1/T-31 in the column "Antique Attic".

It primarily discusses the history of buno 75762 and how it became a restoration project for Don Pellegrenno of Rhome, Texas.

The initial portion of the article briefly discusses the creation of the Q-1 and the and the subsequent competition.

It closes with a nice summary of it's flying qualities and performance.Took Don 10 years to get it flying.

Atlantic Flyer may be reached at www.AFlyer.com. If that does not work and you would like a copy of the article get back to me at the above email address. I'd be glad to copy and forward to you.

I happen to be the Mystery Plane editor for the VAHS (Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society) operating out of Richmond Va. At our chapter meetings the members often present me aircraft that they think might fool the membership. I intend to use the XNQ-1 in our next quarterly publication.

Respectfully,

Bill Schultz

My father did the original test on the XNQ while in the Navy. He is still alive and told me that when he tested it he barely made it back because it leaked exhaust fumes into the cockpit and he almost passed out. Today exhaust fumes make him ill. His name is Commander Robert M. Soule and he was in the Navy for 23 years and flew over 100 military airplanes while in the Navy and as a Test Pilot for Vought. He is now 81. Thanks,Kent Soule
