Lockheed C-140A 'Jetstar'
|
Robert S. (Willie) Williams Hampton, GA | I was assigned to the 1867th Flight Check Squadron at Clark Air Base from 1964 to 1967. Flew numerous missions over Viet Nam and into Thailand. Most of my time was on 95958. When I first got there the bird was painted up real pretty. Then someone got the "bright" idea to have it camo-ed. After that we started taking hits from small arms fire. "58" had about 28 holes patched when I rotated back to the states. Am now retired (happily), but enjoyed the time on the C-140A very much. Had 1500 hrs time on them over in Nam and Thailand. Total time in the air was about 7000 hrs on various other flight check aircraft. 11/13/2007 @ 04:14 [ref: 18517] |

Irvin (Mac) McKain Omaha, NE | Note to Jim Kmucha---Have you noticed that the picture, next to bottom on the left is \"OUR\" old 59-5962? Should you care to contact me fire off an e-mail. Jim and I both served as crew chiefs in the 1867th during our duty tours back thru 1967 to the end of his tour. 62 spent a night at Offutt AFB and I got to go out and sit in her for a while. Soon duty called me back to the 55th Job Control, Senior Controller position and I had to leave my old bird. mac 08/13/2007 @ 05:07 [ref: 17585] |
Ed Lagesse , IL | I was Stationed at Scott AFB with the 375th CAMS and worked down in Hangar 3, T-39/C-140 section.
Probably better known as "Goose or Geese"
The 1866TH FCS jets (C-140) were part of us and I know alot of the guys here since I was there from 81-83.
My First Ride in a Military Jet was with 5962 to Missouri for a "Compass Swing".
Then 1 time I'm pretty sure it was 5962 came back with "Garfield" painted on its tail under the AFCC markings.
When I left Scott AFB in August of 83 I went to Yokota AB japan and became the 1867th FCS T-39'S dedicate Crew Chief for the time I was there 83-85.
I was then Stationed at England AFB La (A-10's)and 1 of the C-140A's came in for 3 days of flying in 86 or 87 (If I remember)and "Clyde" was the Flight Mech and I talked to him at Base OP'S for awhile.
Last Time I saw a C-140, I missed the "Junk Star" it was a good jet.

Jim Kmucha Huber Heights, OH | I was assigned to the 1867 FCS from Oct 68 to Apr 70 in maintenance. Assigned to aircraft 962. Retired in 1983 and am now working for the government at WPAFB, Oh. Those were some great times in the PI. 04/30/2007 @ 11:35 [ref: 16360] |
Robert Moore Henderson, NV | I was a instructor flight inspector in the C140a with the 1866fcs from 1977 - 1981. Station with a great bunch of guys, my first instructor "Mac" McMahon was a very special guy, who taught me the most. I enjoyed the company and all the flight mechs at our bbq's at Scott AFB, Il. If you see
Jim Luthmann, Al Tokifuki, Chuck Youngblood, Mike Afieri, Mac McMahon, Larry Moore,
tell them I say hi and I'm still kicking.
Left Scott in 1981 to help get the stealth program kickstarted at Tonopah and later dreamland! Have 2400hrs in Jetstar, only puked twice! 02/20/2007 @ 01:03 [ref: 15595] |
Paul Brewer Indianapolis, IN | I was assigned to the 1867th at Clark from April 1970 to April 1972. I was first assigned as Assistant Crew Chief on 59-5960 with Jean Pierre Boniec as the Crew Chief. I later became Crew Chief on 59-5959 with Jim Luthmann as my assistant. I have many fond memories of my association with the C-140A and all the others I had the great opportunity to know and to work with. Assigned to the 1867th had to be the highlight of my military experience. Clark AB, Philippines and our operating location at Korat AB, Thailand had to be the best duty assignments that one could ask for. I don’t think there was a single airfield in Thailand or Vietnam that we didn’t land at.
I also spent 3 years (1977-1980) with Lockheed Aircraft International working on the –8 JetStar in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with other former Flight Check and SAM pilots, FE’s and mechanics.
I would like to hear from anyone else that was the 1867th at the same time as myself, please feel free to e-mail me.

Guy E. Franklin Montgomery, AL | The first time I saw a C-140 it came into Laughlin AFB, TX where I worked Transient Alert in the Mid 70's to check out the tower fort he "Rex Riley" award.

Mike Welling Arlington, TX | I first came across the C-140A not long after they arrived at Richards-Gebaur AFB just south of K.C. MO. Not long after they arrived I was assigned liason duties between supply and maintenance. My favorite task while assigned to maintenance was to find errors in the -4 T.O. This lead to years of submitting corrections and finally to helping with the creation an completelly new -4. I stayed with the C-140A when RG closed and they moved to Scott where I continued to work as a supply person but in the maintenance squadron. I have nothing but fond memories of the plane and the people who flew it and maintained it. 09/15/2005 @ 07:33 [ref: 11240] |
Brad Tague Shiloh, IL, IL | Like OP Taylor I was a Crewchief then Flight Mechanic from 82-89. I had the unhappy pleasure of being the flight mechanic to take 5958 on it's last flight to Travis AFB. The pilots flew approaches until we had all four low sump lights on and made a perfect drag chute landing to end it's career. It was a great but sad day! 08/15/2005 @ 15:42 [ref: 10999] |
