The Lockheed RF-4 was a variant of the P-38 Lightning, produced PRIOR to the Uniform Joint service designation system. In USAAF nomencalture, "F" meant Photograph (As "P" was already being useed for Fighters (i.e. "pursuit")

Your information as to the manufacturer of the RF-4C, Phantom 11 is incorrect. The Phantom was built solely by the McDonnel Corporation, St. Louis, Mo.
