Larry Klementowski , CA | Flew the C-9A from 1972 to 1978 at Scott AFB. Awesome airplane. We did things with it I still can't believe, e.g. Travis to Hickam (HI), wet 4800 ft long asphalt runways, etc. I got to Scott as a green 2LT right out of pilot training, left as an Aircraft Commander, Functional Check Pilot and Command Post Mission Controller, over 2,000 hours flying time. Talk about fun, hard work & stories (mostly true!). One highlight was Operation Homecoming, taking our former Hanoi POW's from main US gateways (Travis, Scott, Andrews) to their home bases. I flew two who ended up as US Senators. I even married a Scott AFB USAF nurse (still married to her!).
Cathi: (If you check back) - flew with your dad (Bill Nolan). I clearly remember him as one heck of a great crew member and friend. He kept the younger guys in line!

bill cushing , CT | I served with the 57th at Scott from 1979 til 1981 or so, then joined the 73rd active reserve unit and flew 2 or 3 trips a month while studying at SIU Edwardsville. I may recall a very occasional hangover from the 1614 Travis msn.s
Great times, great people. 10/28/2010 @ 15:36 [ref: 32591] |
Sgt. James M. (Mike) Kelley Perry, IA | Med tech on C-131; C-118, and C-9A aircraft from 5/69 to 11/70 at Scott AFB. Was in on the Hurricane Camille evac from Biloxi in '69. Loved the C-9. What a great aircraft. Loved taking care of our patients. Went on to become an RN. Was happy to see the VietNam war end. Flew with CMSgt. Julian C. Bailey and Msgt. Fitzpatrick. SSgt. Buz Morley tried to get me to re-up but school was on my mind. Otherwise I might have stayed in. 10/28/2010 @ 11:43 [ref: 32589] |

Dave Murphy , MO | Wow! What memories. I was stationed at Scott from 1982-1995 assigned to the 375th CAMS for a good part of it. I flew as a Flight Mech from 1986-1995 until I was sent to the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot. I logged over 5,000 hrs on the C-9A...had more fun than God allows. Anyone with news of reunions or veterans of the units involved are welcome to contact me.

D.C. Anderson , FL | I had the pleasure of being an FCC(Flying Crew Chief) on the C9's for over 4.5 years,..This plane took me to places 99.9% of everyone else in the world wants to go....And I got paid!!...I was the DCC for 0874 from 1999 to 2001 as well,..I cross-trained away from Maintenance, and I made a call back to Yokota to find out they shut down the program and sent all of my fellow 30th AS folks to the 130's and other places,..Very sad,..I can tell you from an intimate knowledge of the "9's" they had another 20 on the counter still. (Also if you have ever washed the WHITE C-9 on the temp limit(41 degrees)you have my respect.! 04/07/2010 @ 17:48 [ref: 25992] |
Cathi Nolan Millbrook, AL | My dad, TSGT William (Bill) Nolan use to fly on the C9's out of Scott AFB in 73-78. I do believe he flew while stationed in Germany as well. I know he is looking forward to the reunion in May 2010 in New Orleans. I was very surprised to find the C9's were retired as well. 02/16/2010 @ 17:00 [ref: 25736] |

Gerald Moore Alamogordo, NM, NM | Like most of you that have made comments on this site, I too really enjoyed my C-9 experience as a med tech. First at Scott AFB from late summer 1969 to the end of June 1970. I arrived in early May 1969, but had to qualify on the C-118 first. The 2nd and Rhein-Main AB came next (Aug 1970-May 1974) after Scott, and had to wait two years before flying in a C-9 again. Some C-9 highlights are conducting my first reenlistment inside a C-9, and the time some birds were ingested into engine during the take off roll at Incirlik, just prior to rotation. The next biennial air evac reunion will be in New Orleans, LA next year (2010). 08/01/2009 @ 23:42 [ref: 24325] |
