ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The Tomcat is by far superior to the F-18, I know that the risk of an enemy aircraft now is slim to none, but if an F-18 went up against any Fairly modern Russian or Chinese fighter, its dead, the F-14 was truely one of the best fighter aircraft of all time, and the Navy should never have retired it and cancelled the upgrades, and definately shouldn't have spent so much money on hornets.

VFA-106 - NAS OCEANA
VFA-37 - NAS OCEANA
VFA-137 - NAS OCEANA
VFA-83 - MCAS BEAUFORT

VMFA-451 flew the A model of the Hornet, not the C model. VMFA-251 flies the C model in Beaufort, SC. I worked in the powerline shop from 1994-1997 when we were deactivated.

You need to change the date vfor beginning of service for this aircraft. You have 1962, but there were no Hornets in service then - I was there!
Perhaps 1982 or '83?

I worked on the F/A-18 at Northrop El Segundo. I had a Lucite, paperweight thing with a chip or scrap from the milling of the first part of the first F/A-18, well about 6 mos ago I went to visit a friend at Hawthorne Northrop Grumman plant and left it for 2 mins and came back and someone had stole it!

If you know anyone who might have one to buy, sell, trade please let me know! Thanks

I collect these from other aircraft as well, and might be interested, but the F/A-18 really holds the place in my history...thanks!

WANTED Lucite / Acrylic/ Perspex Paperweights
WANTED Lucite / Acrylic/ Perspex Paperweights mainly aviation related....many may say they have a “First Chip” in example “ First Chip from the milling process of the YF-23” or F-16 or something like that, many are from planes, missiles etc…
Some examples. McDonnell Douglas C-17 Production Shaving Lucite Paperweight, First F-22 Production Chip Lucite in the shape of the state of Georgia, containing production chip / shaving any project! See link for photos

Another type are made from metals, materials & alloys used in the aircraft's manufacture they have “this is a example of the aluminum alloy used in making the B-52, they are about the size of a pack of cigarettes, see link to photos

REMEMBER-I pay a finders fee; please pass this around to anyone who may be able to help… Thanks from Charles!

Actually, I thought really hard about it and have come to the conclusion that you are right. I am a blubbering idiot, and the most technical thing I should ever try to attempt is make toast.

Are you serious? You want to build an F-18 simulator in your back yard? Did you ride the short bus to school? Did it ever back over your head? Sounds like a yes to both of those questions. Why don't you start with something small like building a concrete wall to beat your head against. Then move on to something more technically challenging; like a robotic friend, so you'll have someone that you can program to give a shit.

Without question, the F/A-18 is better than that stupid EA-6B Prowler in everyway. OMG replace that clunking old chunk of slag please!
