Noorduyn XJA-1 'Norseman'
|
Glenn E. Chatfield North Liberty, IA | Actually, the Navy designation J was used from 1926 to 1931 for transport, and under this series the Atlantic model 18 version of the Super Universal was designated as the XJA-1 for evaluation, BuNo 8012.
From 1931 to 1955 the J was used for general utility, and under this system the Noorduyn Norseman was designated JA-1, four of which were delivered. BuNo 57992/994, 57999. 12/03/2009 @ 04:21 [ref: 25377] |
Jos Heyman , TN | The XJA-1 designation was not associated with the Noorduyn Norseman. Instead it was used for the Atlantic Super Universal, a development of the Fokker transport aircraft designs. A single aircraft was ordered by the US Navy in 1928 for evaluation. It was designated XJA 1 and had serial A8012. It has been suggested the aircraft was cancelled.
This is one of the few times a US Navy designation has been duplicated. 09/30/2003 @ 17:54 [ref: 6732] |
