AOPA last week had an article on their web page about Klaus Seivers (sp?) Vari-Eze: 190 kt and 50 mpg. Approaches 100 mpg at reduced speed. I assume he is still using a modified O-200.

On this site for the first time today. I added a picture of my Varieze with a Continental C-85, B&C starter, Slick mags, new cylinders some time ago and various mods for slower speed handling...take off ........and landing below 70 mph.
Burt originally had plans including the C-85 but later changed his mind since he felt it would be a one-place airplane. It weighs empty at or near 700 pounds and I have flown it at 1125 est. or more. So it can accomodate two people with several hours of fuel plus reserve.
It was flown out of Corona, CA (and the first built and flown from Corona) in 1981 and was flown to Arlington, WA the same year.....always hangered.
It burns 4 gph at 150 mph cruise. Top speed varies with the prop....currently flying a Performance Prop with a top speed of 175 mph.
I am considering selling in the next five years since I just turned 70....but will be very careful as to whom I sell it to. Would be interested in starting to talk to interested parties.

I built one and it's a dream to fly.
