Kevin Helena, MT | Hello from the Big Sky. I'm a 350 hr pilot; mainly been flying a Mooney for the last 150 hrs. I'm currently looking at purchasing a 1985 Long-Ez with 994TT and only 48 SMOH. The plane looks great from the pics and I'm currently waiting until she gets out of her annual this week. I plan to hire my local A&P / I mechanic and a local EAA pilot who has flown a Long-ez before. I will request that I fly her an hr or so before purchase. Any other suggestions I would appreciate your comments. I'm excited but also nervous as I usually do a ton of research before I buy anything. What I have found is about the Long-ez, is mostly that it's safe, fast, fuel efficient and not too hard to transistion into. Let me know...Thanks!

Victor Fort Pierce, FL | To Richard,
The long EZ is an easy airplane to fly. Unfortunately it has not controls in the back seat except the stick. I do transition training for Long EZ's but you are going to have to have a private pilot's license before thinking about flying an EZ. The Long is about 50 mph faster than the 152 and requires mastering speed control for landings. It is ten times slicker than a 150 and will be a handfull when you start transition training. Insurance companies won't even think about covering a student in a long. There is a very good reason for that also. As far as the hours, I don't doubt that you could learn to fly it but being about to put it in a spot should the engine quit is going to take some time. If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call and I will do my best to answer them.
Victor
