Jesse F. Shepherd Portland , Or., OR | Mr. Bruce Lrwis of Nipom, Ca.(i.d. # 180890) wrote in the coment section that he too was interested in the Ryan YO-51 "Dragonfly". I am nesring the completion of detailed plans for this modelm. It has a span of 76 In. and has full working flaps and slats. --- I am real. Look me up on the MSN search web and you will find my history of 86 yrs. 76 in Model Aircraft and Design/ building / flying and designer in the full size Aircraft world too. I need a builder and flyer to Campaign this model as I am no longer able to do it ! I am am AMA "Fellow" and an AMA Pioneer in R/C and Free flight nodels. 02/15/2008 @ 22:23 [ref: 19688] |
Carl Miller Hawi,, HI | Concerning nthre Ryan Dragonfly, If there was any response to the requests about modelling success on the YO 51, I'd like to know it too. This aircraft looks like a great Giant scale project;at 1/5 scale it would be 124" span- perfect. If Mr Bruce Lewis (comment from October 2007) could contact me regarding his plans or any other info sources I'd be delighted. The slats and flaps look intriguing and maybe even Andy Lennon might like it!(My Dad built Andy's Snowy Owl, about 65" span)

Bruce Lewis Nipomo, CA | I too have been looking at the YO-51 for a long time. Since the posts are up to 7 years old I would like to hear from anyone successful in modeling this aircraft.
I have a profile drawings (bottom, side and front)as well as a picture that is in the 1943 WWII Aeronautics Aircraft Spotters' Handbook.

Jesse F. Shepherd, Sr. Portland, OR | I have been wanting to draw up plans for the YO-51 for some time. Years ago I had three views of it from the MAN magazine and even later I had the Ryan Company's booklet with all their aircraft photos, three views etc. but I sold all my collection and the buyer doesn't have them any more. In one of the data from a source , it was mentioned that the fuselage was round. I have two unreleased photos that show that the body must hsve been eliptical as it shows a transitional section aft of the cowl that fairs to round aft of the cowl. I have been a modeler since 1936, and worked in the NACA Lab, 1942 and for Convair / Lockhead 1951 to 1970. I am 85. and still designing! "Shep"-- 10/12/2006 @ 21:46 [ref: 14439] |

I am a bush pilot and scale modeler, I have been reading about the wonders of the Ryan YO 51.
I would like to know in which museum is one of these airplanes located?? Is there any further information such as detailed three views and photos?
I have some drawings, but there are not that precise. Any leads to this would be appreciated.

Jerry W. Amelang Tullahoma, TN | I am trying to find factory drawings or three-views of the
O-51 so I can build a quarter scale model of it. 11/28/2000 @ 22:47 [ref: 1108] |
