I flew UH-3Hs at VC-8 in Roosevelt Roads from 1998 to 2000. It was a great flying aircraft and very forgiving. We used to recover BQM-74's which required hovering at about 8 ft while an Aircrewman dangled a long pole with a pelican hook on it to grab the drone. I can close my eyes now and see the salt spray patterns from the rotorwash and the patches of foam that we had to use as a hover reference because we were 50 miles out to sea. Ended up with just over 1000 hours. Flying SH-60s now which is a great aircraft but in some ways the H-3 was better (reliability and power being excepted) :-)
