1954 -1959 I served an apprenticeship at Vickers Armstrongs Aircraft Ltd, later BRitish Aircraft Corp. and still later part of the BAe group. The Viking was a postwar transport using the wing and engines(Bristol Hercules)of the Wellington Bomber. A RAF freighter version was the Valetta which had freight doors and a chopped tailcone. A further tricycle undercarriage version was called the Varsity, which was used as an RAF aircrew trainer. This had an underbelly bombay and bombaimers prone position. A prop had to be used at the rear of the A/C when loading as the CofG was dangerously aft!!
