Great plane. I was the priciple airborne photog for the Tomahawk Cruise Missile program during the developmental phase: late '70's to early 90's. Have many hours in the old girl. Great photog platform--far superior to TA-7, F-14, A-6 and especially the F-4. Huff and puff on take off and had a drag chute which we used once in a landing with iso hydraulic failure. Crappy electric generation system-had to use the RAT more than once! I got locked up once inside for ovwer 12 hours but the Escapac seat was easier on my ass than the Martin-Baker! Good plane and lotsa great memories. Buddah

i WAS IN THE SERVICE FROM AUG.23,1976 TO AUG.23,1980 WAS STATIONED AT NAS CECIL FIELD IN SQUARDON VA-174 I WAS A PLANE CAPT.FOR A WHILE THEN WENT TO THE PARALOFT.
I GOT TOO SEE THE TA-7 WHEN IT FIRST CAME ON LINE I STILL DIDNT SEE WHY IT NEEDED THE PARA BRAKE CHUTE. THEY SAID THAT IT HAD MOR THRUST THEN THE A-7E BUT I THINK IT HAD THE SAME. THE RIGGER FOR THE PARA BREAKE AT THAT TIME WHEN I WAS IN THE SERVICE WAS ME AND ONE OTHER PERSON. THE ONLY TIME THE PARA BREAK WAS USED WAS ONLY BYE ONE INST. AND HE USED IT A LOT. AT FIRST THE CHUTE WORKED ONLY PART OF THE TIME. THE OTHER PERSON THAT HELPED ME WAS MY OLD JUMP INST. AT NATTC LAKEHURST. WE RIGGED THE CHUTE TO WORK MORE THAN PART TIME WE GOT IT TOO WORK 95% OF THE TIME. I AM GLAD TO SEE THAT THE A-7 IS STILL AROUND I THINK IT IS A FINE AIRCRAFT. LIKE THEY SAID LOOKS ISN'T EVERTHING.
