Provincetown Pleasures

by Phil Rowe
Our hosts in Massachusetts treated us to a drive out to the tip of Cape Cod. This was but one fun segment of our 10,000 mile RV trip from New Mexico to the eastern states and Atlantic Canada.
Provincetown Street

The highlight of our day, Monday the 10th, was our trek to the tip of Cape Cod and the quaint village of Provincetown. Even though the weather didn't cooperate, with low clouds, fog and sporadic showers, we thoroughly enjoyed seeing that popular tourist spot. We made a day of it just being tourists.

We walked the narrow streets, peering into shop windows, savoring the salt air and smells of various food vendor wares. The hundreds of others strolling through the town added to the charm and fascination of the experience. We sampled and bought candy, some delightful fudge. And eventually we sought shelter from a rain shower by having lunch in a small cafe. My chowder and fish sandwich was pretty good. Jean, not much of a seafood fan, had a turkey plate while Joyce and Dave each had a lobster roll. Great fun.

 Cape Cod Lighthouse

On our late afternoon return drive from the Cape to Halifax we stopped by a pleasant tourist trap variety store. There we succumbed and came away with a few gifts for family members and souvenirs for ourselves. The store is right near the west end of the Cape Cod canal. That too we visited from an overlook rest stop. Dave tells me that big ships traverse the sea level canal to save the longer trip around the end of the Cape.
