Milton Moore CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA | I flew 341 missions in the A-37A with the 604th SOS and the A-37B with the 8th SOS in Vietnam from Mar 69 until Mar 70. It was an easy bird to fly and carried a formidable ordnance load. I flew the A-37B as an Advisor to the 917th TAG (AF Reserve) at Barksdale AFB from 1972-79. We took over the CCTS from the active duty during that time. 09/01/2007 @ 12:29 [ref: 17808] |

Lawrence Stolk Hayes, VA | I was stationed at Bien Hoa and the 604th SOS. I was a crew chief on aircraft #524 and my pilot was Capt. Lon Holtz. I was there from July '68 to '69.
In early 1969 I, along with a bunch of other troops, was transfered to other fighter squadrons. This was do to too many qualified people rotating home at the same time at our end of tour. I work in the 510th TFS (Buzzards of Bien Hoa).
I really enjoyed working on the combat dragon and loved the commeraderie of the squadron. Those of us that worked or flew the A-37A never called it a super tweet! Tweets were training aircraft and didn't deliver death and destruction to the enemy. 06/30/2006 @ 11:20 [ref: 13621] |
Steve , TX | In that photo, it looks like the ordnance was loaded backwards. That triangular launcher should be facing the other way...
Also, I'm looking for any info regarding Dragonflies flown by the Indiana Air Force Reserve. Thanx. 03/09/2006 @ 07:47 [ref: 12740] |
Steve , TX | Inbuilt armament was a G.E. GAU-2 Minigun (7.62x39mm)
Flak curtains were added to armor the cockpit
Surprising for such a tiny aircraft: could perform Viking takeoffs (vertical zoom pretty much right after coming off the ground. It took the F-15 to duplicate this feat.)
