WALTER K. BARBER SANTA ANA, California | I FLEW MY FIRST MISSION IN THE ORIGINAL MITCH THE WITCH FROM THE ISLAND OF MINDORO IN THE PHILIPINE ISLANDS ON JANUARY 7, 1945. HER SERIAL NUMBER WAS 42-87293 AND WAS A "D" MODEL. SHE WAS NOTED FOR FLYING SO MANY MISSIONS. I HAVE A PHOTO OF HER TAKEN AT LINGAYEN, LUZON, P.I. IN APRIL OF 1945.
SHE HAD 162 MISSIONS AT THAT TIME. TO MY KNOWLEDGE SHE WAS NOT LOST IN COMBAT BUT WAS PUT INTO SOME OTHER SERVICE WHEN THE SQUADRON MOVED FROM IE SHIMA WHEN THE WAR ENDED AND THE 17TH TRS MOVED TO JAPAN.
SINCEREKY,
WALTER K. BARBER

Roy Owenby Franklin, North Carolina | I served with VFAW-3 as an AQF2 at North Island, San Diego. I would like to correspond with anyone who served in that squadron. I would also like to know if there has been or will be a reunion. I am especially interested in the names and locations of all the guys that worked in the radar shop. 09/24/2006 @ 06:54 [ref: 5286] |

Patty Brace Eden Prairie, Minnesota | Can you tell me about the statue that was outside the Eden Prairie Planes of Fame hanger? What was his name & what kind of plane did he fly? I believe he was killed in a plane accident in the early 1990's. 03/02/2006 @ 09:51 [ref: 4846] |
Mike B. , Washington | I grew up in Minneapolis, and loved this museum. In later years after I left home, I always looked forward to coming home to visit my parents and this museum. The volunteers that kept this place running were truly a treasure. I spent endless hours listening to them talk about airplanes and re-tell countless stories of their adventures when they were young and serving their country. You were and are my HEROs. God Bless, and thanks for the wonderful memories. Regards, Mike 07/23/2004 @ 09:20 [ref: 3300] |
