Mike Cantrell Seattle, WA | We currently own and operate TBM-3E Avenger N325GT S/N 69325. The engine is currently out for overhaul and we recently installed a brand new gun turret courtesy of John Lane (Airpower Unlimited - Jerome Idaho)
Once the engine is reinstalled, the aircraft will be going back to the original pain scheme. 03/16/2010 @ 08:48 [ref: 25887] |
Bob Forbes Tulare, CA | The TBM that Randal McFarlane has used to be an Airtanker #58, N6827C in the US belonging to TBM Inc.of Tulare,CA. I flew that aircraft in the late 70's at Porterville,CA. for several years. After it was retired I made my last flight in it on 3-19-77 and delivered it to HillCrest Aviation in Lewiston, ID. They turned it into a sprayer, after that I lost track of it until it appeared in England.
Currently flying a TBM, N4171A in Ramona, CA. painted in WWII Atlantic colors in the markings of VC13. It was restored by Corwin "Corky" Meyer of Grumman test pilot fame and now owned by the Freeberg Family of Escondo, CA. 02/27/2010 @ 22:33 [ref: 25796] |
Rod , ON | If you're interested:
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton Ontario has just taken possession of a TBM Avenger. I not sure but I believe it's a TBM-3E. It's supposed to be fully operational and is being stripped down/refurbished for operational flightline service next year. 11/03/2009 @ 16:29 [ref: 25246] |
Duane Hicks Marietta, OK | A note to Olympic museum poster, we owned XOM TBM 3E up until 1985. We sold our last 2 TBMs to a fella in Kansas. We had operated I think 6 avengers for aerial spraying in Canada. I think I still have parts in my barn in Canada. I do have pics somewhere also and likely a bunch of stories. 09/19/2008 @ 18:39 [ref: 22704] |

Doug Greene Raleigh, NC | Some "gee whiz" information for Steve Searle and Walt Olson.
Steve, your Georgia Peach TBM3E was flown for three hours by my late father-in-law USNR Lt. John A. Kramer, Jr. from Bennett Field Brooklyn NY on 29 April 1950. only entry I can find in his log books regarding that particular aircraft. He was assigned to Naval Reserve Anti-Submarine Unit VS-831.
Walt, additional info regarding the question you have on the SK designation.I'm not sure what or where the SK was based, but the TBM3E Bureau No. 53688 was later designated SD and the number 5 was painted on the nose cowling. This aircraft was flown by USNR Lt.John A. Kramer Jr. from the U.S.S. Block Island (CVE-106) out of NAS Norfolk, VA as part of the VS-831 ASW unit. On 31 January 52, after a two hour flight, somewhere in the Atlantic, he was attempting to land when the right tire blew out and caused the plane to veer over the deck of the carrier and ended upside down in the ocean. The plane was lost but Lt. Kramer was rescued by the crew of the U.S.S. Stribling (DD-867) several minutes later. Hope this info helps. 10/18/2007 @ 17:04 [ref: 18232] |
