In main library Kansas City, MO (kcpl.org) a copy of Kelly Field (History) Book with few photos 1917-1919. I have some photos probably towards 1920-21 of Kelly Field (aerial field and hangars), numbered planes, ambulance, fuel truck, nearby Mission, British AVRO, logo wall of Class numbers and only one named photo is Lt. Byras and Cadet Buck. If you have access to 1920 Texas Census, Kelly Field, was counted separate. Not much help since those classes near Austin SMA went only a couple months each to graduate. Estimate Class of 92 Aero was about 1920-21, so count back.

LOOKING FOR L.W.F. MODEL V 1917/1918 PHOTOGRAPHS AND DOCUMENTS OF ITS KELLY FIELD SERVICE Prague National technical museum preserves the sole survivor of L.W.F. Model V Tractor aircraft and we try to trace up its history. Aircraft production plate lost since 1920s, but we presume c/n 12893 from 1917 late production batch. Plane entered US Air Service at the end of 1917, possibly to Kelly Field. In late 1918 chosen one of 25 aircraft sold and shipped to Czechoslovak Legion in Siberia, it took part on its Odyssey across Russia. In January 1920 shipped again at Vladivostok for a long journey to Europe. Never flown again became a treasure of National technical Museum in Prague. The miracle, it survived 40 years of socialism hung from museum ceiling with its original American insignia! After almost six decades this rare aircraft is about to be hung down in January 2008 for substantial restoration. Many thanks in advance, M. Pokorny, Prague, Czech republic

My maternal grandfather, William Simpson, was a medic/messenger at Kelly Field during World War I. He drove an Indian motorcycle with a sidecar attached to it and frequently drove officers and injured soldiers around the base and into town. The Army issued him a Harley-Davidson prior to his private purchase of the Indian; he had so many mechanical problems with it he told the Army to shelve it in favor of a more reliable machine. My family is fortunate to have a number of photos of my grandfather and his Army buddies on the base during that era. I would love to upload them for posterity, if anyone knows of a website where I might do this.

I am looking for World War One Kelly Field records. My father told many stories of his service there as a aviation trainer during WW1. I promised my mother who has passed away that I would continue looking until I found them. His name was Irving W. Akers. Any assistance would be most appreciated. rcsent@attglobal.net Jennifer Akers

I am looking for any information or where I might find information about my great-uncle Flying Cadet Ferrel Douglas (Dick)Hooks who was killed in a training accident on 14 JAN 1939 at Kelly Field. If there is anyone out there still alive who rembers him or has any info regarding the accident or the man I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.

When I was a small boy who lived on the South side of San Antonio in the 40s I saw one of the most amazing things anyone could emagine, first you could feel it then you saw it,the XC99 in flight, truly awsome. After I returned home from my tour in the 5TH AF and a short tour at Lowry, I took my family to see the great bird and lo and behold there she was in a field of weeds waiting to be turned into a cartoon chow hall. Glad to hear she is going to be shown some honor. Her sister crashed and she was the only bird that paid for her self in one flight,by the way first came the XC99 then the B36.

I have restored a World War Two GMC model CCKW353H1 2 1/2 ton truck that was used at Kelly Field , later Kelly AFB . The date of delivery of the truck is August of 1945, probably among the last of the World War Two trucks accepted by the Army. The truck was still in her faded flight line yellow paint with hood numbers 48552594 with the Air Training Command winged propeller in a circle still on the bumper. It was bought by Mr. Keller owner of Keller Materials Company in San Antonio from government surplus in 1960. I purchsed the truck from Mr. Keller and have since restored her to original condition with Kelly markings on her. She is driven in parades and has appeared at the Randolph AFB airshow each year over the past few years. A lost piece of Army Air Force Kelly Field history that has been restored to tell the story of another time.
