Robert Drake Huxley, IA | I was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska from 1966 to 1969. I was assigned to the 5040th Organizational Maintenance Squadron which was then changed to the 21st OMS.
I worked primarily in periodic maintenance work center. The F-102A was a very cool airplane to work on. 04/22/2008 @ 20:54 [ref: 20685] |

Aaron DiGenova , IN | I spent many cold nights working on F-102 MG-10 Radar. Was at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska (1957/58/59)317th FIS. We were there when Alaska became a State. 50 years ago! 12/12/2007 @ 21:14 [ref: 18894] |
William Haman , NY | 59th FIS detachment #1 EH AFB Newfoundland 1959 to 1962 Great tour of duty with the Delta Dagger F-102A's 11/15/2007 @ 08:49 [ref: 18540] |
Mike Ferros , GA | I was stationed with the 509th FIS at Clark AFB during 1962 to 64. I assisted the duty officer at the Sqd operations hanger with pre-assigned color codes and sequences of light flashes to scramble the "duces".
Short story...One of the pilots had experienced Honda rash on his motorbike and was disabled for a few weeks....He was finally declared fit to return to flight duty. As he was climbing aboard for his "duce", a full dress AF band was assembled and with a few renditions of some brisk AF tunes, gave him a resounding welcome back. ...A photo of this event would have been priceless for that red faced, but happy pilot. A finer group of pilots I've yet to meet and I've often wondered how well they faired during deployments to Nam, of which I was tdy on a couple of occasions before I received my discharge at Travis.
Final note....I retired as pilot with my home state some years back and a good deal of inspiration and credit by association with that squadron is fully appreciated....Blue, green, yellow, black, brown, orange, grey, gold, tan, silver, copper...in sequence! Thanks for the memories!
