Sam McIntyre Farmers Branch, TX | Were any of you at McDill AFB during the Cuban Crisis? Our squad. ended up with about 150 F-84F's. I've stayed in contact with Sgt Jay Cessna. We were at Nellis AFB together and were sent to McDill together. I left the AF after 12 years in 1963. Jay retired after a couple of tours to Nam.. Each of us were crew chiefs of a F-84F and partnered up to be each others assistant CC. After retiring Jay worked at the aircraft bone yard in Arizona and one day he called me to tell me that the 84 he had been CC of was just towed by on its way to the crusher.
I liked working on the 84 but I sure didn't like being at McDill. 10/11/2005 @ 17:47 [ref: 11456] |

Curtis Block Olympia, WA | I am looking for any information that might be available on F-84f-30-GK S/N 51-9420. The aircraft currently resides at the Olympic Flight Museum in Olympia WA. I am working on a project to compile individual airframe histories for the aircraft in the collection. I have written the USAF but have not yet received anything. Any information or photos would be helpful. The aircraft is also missing the vertical stabilizer and rudder. Any help in procuring these items would be appreciated. Please E-mail for contact. 02/18/2005 @ 00:24 [ref: 9464] |
Mike Cole Houston, TX | The F-84 that Jerry Blaylock spoke of number 52-6455 located at the American Legion post in front of Ellington field has a special meaning to me. I was stationed at Ellington when the # 6455 was flown in. I was assigned the duty of getting it ready for display at the American Legion. When it arrived all the armament was already removed, but while searching the nose section for any foreign objects I found two live 50 caliber rounds and a number of spent cartridge hulls, and several of the clips that hold them together. Also when the engine was removed I retrieved the engine ID plate and still have it in my possession to this day.
